OVERVIEW

AAMC Foundation’s Engagement Program for International Curators (EPIC) offers curators a rare and valuable platform for cross-cultural networking and exchange. By engaging with their counterparts, participants build and/or strengthen international relationships, lead multi-national conversations, and advance their professional skills. Partnerships are not project-based, but instead specifically focus on the reciprocity of information, experiences, and insights to help curators gain new perspectives, approach challenges with fresh ideas, and encourage global thinking.


VIRTUAL PROGRAM BENEFITS & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Receive a stipend of $1,250 for the commitment to and participation in the program components detailed below.

2. Gain two-year full AAMC Foundation Community Access, including professional development activities and website, which includes professional resources, a webinar archive, and a member directory of 1,300 curators.

3. Participate in the 2021 Virtual Art Curators Conference and Virtual Alumni Reception in late April-early May.

4. Engage with US Liaison, including at least two video meetings between May 1 and November 1, 2021.

The pairing will discuss and develop the goals submitted within the Awardee’s application. While we welcome aims oriented around developing scholarly pursuits within the American Art parameters outlined above, we are seeking goals that focus on overall curatorial career and professional skill development. Areas of advancement could include research, project management, leadership development, cross-border exhibitions, loans, fundraising, marketing, dealer and donor relationships, and other such areas.

5. Collaborate with US Liaison to host one Curator Gathering on a topic of your choosing in fall/winter 2021. These 45-minute, confidential, virtual forums for curators are dedicated to networking and sharing content and advice.

6. Work together with the six program pairings to develop a webinar for the full AAMC Foundation audience.

7. Provide a mid-program check-in, a final report and program evaluation survey.


INTERNATIONAL AWARDEE REQUIREMENTS

  • All applicants must be art curators at non-profit organizations, with direct responsibility for works of art. In addition, curators and others that work a minimum of 50% of the time for/with non-profit organizations will be considered. Please note that curators working in four-wall collecting and non-collecting, community based, and non-four wall organizations, are eligible.
  • All applicants must be nonprofit curators around the globe having worked or currently working within collections, exhibitions and/or projects in development that explore historical art of the United States (c. 1500-1980), including Native American Art and U.S. Latinx Art, as well as painting; sculpture; works on paper, such as prints, drawing and photography; decorative arts; performance; and design (except industrial). Architecture and commercial film are excluded.
  • All applicants must be able to commit to participating in all program components at the time of application, including the all deadlines (non-negotiable).
  • INTERNATIONAL AWARDEES must live and work in the any country but the United States.


DEADLINE

  • Applications for the AAMC Foundation Engagement Program for International Curators opens on Saturday, November 21 and the final deadline for submitting and application is 12pm ET on Friday, January 15.
  • Please ensure you fill out all of the required questions below, which are indicated with a red asterisk. An incomplete or late submission will result in the application not being reviewed by the jurors. There are no exceptions to this rule.


VETTING PROCESS

The pairings are selected by a jury of curators and directors, including past program participants.  Meaningful matches are focused on the Awardee’s goals and the Liaison’s capacity to help in those areas. However, this is a dual program –and the U.S. Liaison will also expand their experiences by interaction with the Awardee.
