Each year the AAMC is honored to award Conference Travel Fellowships for curators to attend our Annual Conference and Meeting. Since 2010 alone, over 200 individual Curatorial Travel Fellowships have been awarded. This year we are proud to offer two opportunities the Conference Travel Fellowship for Junior Curators the Art Fund & AAMC Conference Travel Fellowship for UK-based curators. CONFERENCE TRAVEL FELLOWSHIP FOR JUNIOR CURATORS
To be eligible for a Conference Travel Fellowship for Junior Curators, made possible through funding from the Samuel H. Kress Foundation, applicants must self-identify as “junior curators,” defined as having less than 10 years of experience working at non-profit organizations, regardless of geographic location, with direct responsibility for works of art. Applications from curators without access travel funding or professional development support are particularly encouraged to apply. Multiple curators from one museum are eligible. A total of ten junior curators will be awarded fellowships in 2019.
At the time of application, Fellows must be able to commit to attending the AAMC & AAMC Foundation’s Annual Conference & Meeting, from May 4-7, 2019 in New York City. Conference Travel Fellowship for Junior Curators benefits include:
- Fellowship Award ($800) to be used towards Conference registration and event fees, travel (airfare, train, etc), accommodations, and per diems. While AAMC will be on hand to assist, fellows are responsible for independently registering for Conference activities, and are expected to pay all fees associated with that registration directly. Fellowship awarded funding can be used for these fees.
- One invitation to join the 2019 AAMC & AAMC Foundation Program Alumni Reception, a networking event allowing Fellows to connect with others engaged in professional development and with AAMC, as well as current and past AAMC Board and Committee members. It is currently slated for Sunday, May 5, 2019 while the Conference is in session.
- Complimentary 1-year AAMC membership, giving full access to all our professional development activities, interactive website which includes professional resources, our salary survey, and a member forum and directory.
All fellows are expected to submit a final report, and Program evaluation survey. Follow-up and commitments beyond the Program would continue through personal invitations to future Annual Program Alumni Receptions.
- All applicants must be art curators at non-profit organizations, with direct responsibility for works of art. In addition, curators and others that work a minimum of 50% of the time for/with non-profit organizations will be considered. Please note that curators working in four wall collecting and non-collecting, community based, and non-four wall organizations, at any location in the globe are eligible.
- All applicants must self-identify as “junior curators,” defined as having less than 10 years of experience working at non-profit organizations, regardless of geographic location, with direct responsibility for works of art. Applications from curators without access travel funding or professional development support are particularly encouraged to apply. Multiple curators from one museum are eligible.
- All applicants must be able to commit to participating in the full Conference program (May 4-7, 2019 in New York City) at the time of application, including the all deadlines (non-negotiable), timelines, and travel. A stipend is granted as part of this Program to accommodate the travel requirements.
Applications for the AAMC Foundation Conference Travel Fellowship for Junior Curators opens on Thursday, January 10, 2019 and the final deadline for submitting and application is 12pm ET on Tuesday, February 12, 2019.
Please ensure you fill out all of the required questions below, which are indicated with a red asterisk. An incomplete or late submission will result in the application not being reviewed by the jurors. There are no exceptions to this rule.
